It’s week 3 of our series on pursuing your passion! If you’re new here, check out part 1 and part 2. The purpose of this series is to push ourselves past just having a heart and desire for something to consistently acting on our passions. A woman with a heart passionate for Jesus and uses her skills to glorify Him is unstoppable. Two things happen when we actively pursue our passions, we gain more joy in our daily lives because we are doing what we love, and most importantly we are making the gospel known. So here’s where we’ve been and here’s the plan going forward…

Money is a topic that makes people squirm. I’m one of the oddballs that actually likes talking personal finance because I know when managed wisely there are incredible opportunities money gives to future generations and God’s people. When it comes to doing what you love though, I think money gets pushed aside, which in some cases forces you to put your passion on the back burner.
The angle I want to come from this post is a cheerleader. I’m not here to teach about money habits because I think so many other people do it better. Know that my encouragement is coming from the perspective of pursuing a debt-free, cash flow, “live below your means” lifestyle.
Hands down I believe the best personal finance training comes from Dave Ramsey. His daughter, Rachel Cruze, just wrote an awesome book called Love Your Life, Not Theirs: 7 Money Habits for Living the Life You Want. The biggest thing I learned from Rachel is how to be content with God’s blessings in my life and stop comparing my life to everyone else’s Instagram posts ;).
All that to say, my encouragement to spend money on your passions comes with the foundation of the principles taught in Love Your Life, Not Theirs. If you haven’t read it, I encourage you to!
Financing Your Passion
Investing in your passions looks differently for everyone. If it’s a small business, you’ll definitely have to invest money into it to make it grow. If your passion is more volunteer focused, you might only spend a small amount on educating yourself more. I believe we can all benefit at some point from spending money on our passions. Why?
It strengthens my commitment level
When I invested $200 into launching my blog, it became REAL. Mentally, it helped me realize that this was something I put my hard-earned money towards so I need to take it seriously and make it count. I’m not saying if a blogger doesn’t invest money upfront they aren’t serious, but when you do, it takes you to a whole new level. I would say anytime money is involved we stay more committed. With cash in hand, it’s a great idea to invest money into your passion, which will not only increase your commitment level but also give you the confidence to take new steps.
It strengthens my confidence level
The other reason why I believe it’s important to spend money on our passions is it gave me the confidence to win. In my scenario, investing in a sleek website design, tech stuff, and social media tools gave me the confidence that I held the right tools to be successful. These tools took a lot of the guessing out and allowed me to do what I love more efficiently. I still don’t have it all together, but having a foundation of stellar products and services helps me move forward each day.
If you get anything out of this know that your passion is worth it. Your dreams and goals are worth investing in. God placed these passions inside your heart for you to act upon. When the time is right, don’t be afraid to make that initial investment into your passion. It’s just another step to pursuing your passion in a big way!
Side note: If you’re looking to take your passion into a money-making business, I HIGHLY recommend Christy Wright’s new book, Business Boutique: A Woman’s Guide for Making Money Doing What She Loves. She has a TON of practical tips for every part of making money with your passion.
