Joy. It’s something we all desire, we find for short seasons, and then quickly lose when something goes wrong. Joy is also a beautiful gift that God equipped each of us to have in our lives. Finding joy in the Lord is takes discipline, being intentional, and a whole lot of grace.
Seeking a life filled with His joy is also difficult. Finding joy in the Lord alone goes completely against what society teaches us. We’re taught to find joy in our careers, relationships, skills, wealth, and anything else we can control. Each of those things can make us happy and they should! Friend, there is so much more happiness and joy waiting for us when we give it all to God! All we have to do is put our joy and peace in Him.
It takes time to shift our thinking to be content in God alone and where He has us in life. We have to build a habit of intentionally finding joy in the Lord. Please hear me say that there is no expectation of building this habit overnight. Our God is full of grace, patience, and love for His children. I’ve outlined practical ways you can build a habit of finding joy in the Lord, but first I don’t want you to miss the overall themes.
Finding joy in the Lord starts with His Word
Dear friends, there is so much joy found in the Bible. God laid out His direction for our lives in these 66 books. All of the answers to our questions can be found in His Word and even the answers to the questions we don’t have yet. When we read about God’s intense love for us and Jesus’ journey to the cross for us when we deserved none of it, you can’t help be joyful! Putting yourself in God’s Word on a daily basis keeps you humble and helps you see what truly matters in life, which is honoring God in all we do.
Focus on others
You won’t get too far in the Bible before realizing in order to be more Christ-like, we must put others before ourselves. When we focus on loving and serving others well, whether they are followers of God or not, we in fact find more joy. We were all born with a selfish nature. Fighting that selfishness is a daily battle that can only be won with God’s grace. All God asks of us is to rely on Him and take it one day at a time. Each day when we choose to be selfless and focus on others, God grants us a type of joy that can never be attained by just pleasing ourselves. I don’t know about you, but witnessing lives changed through the power of Jesus Christ is the most joyous event to be apart of.
What a joy-filled life looks like
Oh sister, when your life is filled with a God-given joy, you are UNSTOPPABLE. A joy-filled life means no matter life’s circumstances, you know God is a good God and has your best interest in mind because His Word promises us so. A life of joy means you want to see others have the same joy in Christ that you have and you make sure your words and actions radiate God’s love. A joy-filled life also means that you boldly walk into a future doing what you love using your passion and talents because God has entrusted them to you to bring glory to Him.When your life is filled with a God-given joy, you are UNSTOPPABLE.
